HISTORY

Drag Racing has its origins in the immediate post-war years in Southern California. It is called drag racing because Young 'Hot Rodders' of the day raced each other on the main drag through town. Just like in the film 'American Graffiti'. Enlightened local authorities encouraged these fledgling racers to move to disused airfields and dry lake beds. It was from these simple beginnings that the multi-million dollar sport that dominates American Motor sports has evolved.

The format at North Weald is very similar to those grass roots events. Participants are provided with an informal racing environment within a safe and organised structure.
